History

Kindred Spirit started her life as "Spartan Queen", a dark navy 62 Sunreef Catamaran built in Poland and one of the original Sunreef builds. She was one of a couple built prior to a factory fire Sunreef had in the early days taking with it the molds and nearly ending the company. Sunreef transitioned to alloy hulls for a couple of years then back to fiberglass. She is extremely well built with very thick, solid hulls and bulkheads. She is very safe feeling and moves along nicely with her oversized Yanmars. Out of the factory she was fitted with twin 110hp Yanmars and the previous owner did a refit in 2017 and installed 160hp Yanmars with Gori Props and they are fantastic. We had them along with the generator removed and overhauled solely for our piece of mind as we planned to venture a bit more remote and wanted to be confident in the engines. Only minor things were picked up and were all replaced. Needless to say we would have likely been fine not doing this but it was for our piece of mind. This vessel had been based out of Hong Kong for a period and also was used as a charter boat out of Hawaii for a period of it’s life too. Prior to us, it was owned by a Kiwi who had a lot of things upgraded and the hull painted. It then was stuck in Fiji for Covid after which it was then bought by us after some lengthy convincing of the previous owner to part ways with his pride and joy.

We have been more or less full time live aboard since May 2022 - just the 2 of us and our labrador when in NZ, and when in Fiji having friends and family joining us too. We then had our first child and continued our NZ summers and Fiji winters for a total of 4 seasons. We have just had our second child and are ready for land life for a couple of years before returning to the ocean again.

There is nothing quite like living on the ocean and to do it on such a fantastic platform that Kindred Spirit is we have been very spoilt. We were very amateur sailors when we took the leap from a 40ft Lagoon to this and we often wonder how we ever did it on the Lagoon, we would never go back.
